You've signed up to build, now what?
Thank you for signing up to build with Athens Area Habitat for Humanity! Getting out to the job site is one of the most rewarding volunteer experiences Athens Area Habitat has to offer.
Where do I go?
We have many build sites around the Athens Area. In order to allow our construction managers the flexibility to handle these multiple sites, we will send your build site information on the Tuesday before your build date. If you do not recieve the email on Tuesday, please contact the office as soon as possible to confirm the information.
What will I do?
Our build site projects include new home construction, building handicap ramps, deconstruction, emergency home repair, and renovation work. When you register for a build date with us, you are signing up to help with whatever project we have on hand. If approprate, we will notify you of a specific weekend task so you can be prepared. However most of the time we ask that you arrive ready for anything we throw at you! Don't worry, you don't need any prior construction experience to help (and have fun!).
What should I wear? Do I need to bring anything?
Please wear sturdy, closed toe shoes and sensible clothing. You don't need to bring any tools or materials, but please bring your first bottle of water (refills provided).
What about lunch?
Lunch will be provided for Saturday builds(If you have any special dietary needs, please be sure to make your own accommodations). Individuals who build during the week can bring their own lunch or grab something close to the site (lunch arrangements at the discretion of the construction manager).
What time should I arrive?
Please arrive at 8:45 am and plan to stay for the entire build day. The build generally finishes up around 3 pm, depending on the workload.
What else do I need to know?
It's very important that you always check the Athens Area Habitat homepage in the morning before you leave for important updates about the build site. Should weather be an issue, the website will serve as our point of contact for cancellations or delays.
